'Popocatepetl' is a motor sailor - a twin keeled masthead sloop of Laurent Giles design. She has a great big wheelhouse with lots of sunlight, not dissimilar to boats from this era. She has a consol/wheel both inside the wheelhouse, as well as in the cockpit. She has a galley on her port hand side; it has a sink and 2 burner stove with grill and oven, which is only a few years old, fuelled by two camping gaz bottles and an electric (12V) fridge. She is reported to have seven berths: two in the fore peak, two under the saloon floor, two in the saloon cabin which are said to fold to provide seating, and a quarter berth. Her owner reports that the saloon is realistically suited to four adults rather than seven.

This boat was built around 1982, and has been owned by her current owner since 2004. It is reported her genoa was replaced in 2004 when the boat was bought. She is reported to come with a in-mast furling main, and a cruising chute (ages unknown). All three sails are reported to be in reasonable condition. The engine is reported as a Beta 60 which was fitted in 2008 and seems to be in good condition. She has a good inventory: Electric windlass, bow thruster, solar panels (reported new as of last year), Duogen Wind/Towed Water generator, Raymarine plotter with Doppler radar, an EchoPilot FLS Silver forward looking sonar (reported as quite old but functional), AIS transponder, and autohelm. She is also reported to have 2x icom dsc radios, one in the cockpit with its own GPS and one in the saloon, with the antenna said to be switchable between them, plus an icom dsc handheld. Power is reported to come from a battery in the forepeak serving the windlass and bow thruster, a separate engine start battery, and a pair of 100AH domestic batteries in the cockpit locker.

Like most boats for restoration, there are a few known problems: One of the universal joints on the rudder linkage is corroded so the steering is rather stiff. The windlass is reported to raise and lower under power, but the mechanism that lets the anchor drop freely is said to be stuck. The autohelm can be engaged from the saloon but the remote in the cockpit isn't working. The domestic batteries are reported to need replacing before long, though the start and forepeak batteries are believed to be ok. She will also likely want some cosmetic tlc.

Health issues prevent the current owner from fully enjoying or maintaining the boat, but she is said to be in sailable condition and could, at least in principle, be delivered or helped with delivery to the mainland.
