'Ram III' Newbridge Virgo Voyager
Ashore in Gillingham, Kent
About her
A rare chance to acquire a junk-rigged cruiser. This Newbridge Virgo Voyager, 'Ram III', is currently ashore alongside the Medway and has been out of the water for three seasons. She is being offered for re-homing by the family of the previous owner, and is understood to be in good condition, but requiring some maintenance and recommissioning work to get her back to her former glory.
'Ram III' is a 23ft bilge-keeler. Despite this small footprint, Virgo Voyagers are known for being remarkably spacious inside, with 6-foot headroom in the saloon and up to five berths if required, due to the high freeboard and cabin top design. Despite this, she should still sail well, with a high 50% ballast ratio.
Engine and rig
The boat is equipped with a Beta engine, last known to be in working order, and originally serviced regularly by a Beta engineer. On deck, there is a complete junk rig, although the running rigging likely needs to be replaced. The mast is believed to be in fair condition, as are the sails, although the sail cover is noticeably worn.
Storage and collection
The boat has been dry-stored for several years under a tarpaulin and looked in on regularly by the family and yard staff, who are all keen for the boat to go to a good home where she will be given a new lease of life.
At 23ft, this boat could be road-trailered (trailer not provided) or sailed away, and the yard can assist with organising a HIAB lift from its current location.
